FAQ

  • What types of therapy do you offer?

I offer both traditional counseling and recreational therapy sessions, depending on your needs and preferences. Some clients do a mix of both. We can figure out what feels most helpful together if you’re not sure.

  • What is recreational therapy?

Recreational therapy uses meaningful, enjoyable activities to support emotional well-being, build coping skills, and improve overall quality of life. It’s especially helpful for kids and neurodivergent individuals who benefit from movement, creativity, structure, and sensory-based tools. Sessions might include things like guided art, leisure planning, mindfulness activities, or game-based skill building—always tailored to each person’s needs and interests.

  • What are your hours?

Sessions are available by appointment during morning hours, with early morning options to accommodate school and work schedules.

  • Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes, all sessions are held virtually for clients across North Carolina.

  • Do you accept insurance?

We do not work directly with insurance companies. We offer limited sliding scale options. Please don’t let cost be the reason you hesitate to reach out.

  • Who do you work with?

I work with children (8+), teens, and adults navigating challenges like neurodivergence, identity exploration, chronic stress, burnout, emotional dysregulation, and suicidal thoughts. My space is LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodiversity-affirming, and grounded in consent-based care.

  • What can I expect from our first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation of trust. We will chat to better understand who you are, what’s bringing you in, and what support might be most helpful. It’s a collaborative conversation—we’ll work together to identify your needs, decide what therapy should focus on, and talk about things like session frequency and goals. You don’t need to have it all figured out ahead of time—we’ll explore it together.

  • What if I’m not sure what kind of support I need?

That’s completely okay. Many people aren’t sure at first. We’ll figure it out together based on how you feel, how you learn best, and what’s been working (or not) in your daily life.

  • How do I get started?

You can reach out via phone (828-209-8926) or email (maegan@solsticecounselingnc.com) to schedule a free consultation, or send a message through the contact page. There’s no pressure. We’ll take the first step together when you’re ready.
